From Ravel Architecture: Located near Austin’s lively South Congress Neighborhood the Brackenridge house benefits from a rare double street front lot allowing parking and day-to-day access in the back with guests visiting through the screen porch on the front. The Home was envisioned as both a private urban retreat and home office for a work from home couple. The home itself is massed to the southern side of an East-West Lot to best accommodate several large oak trees. We placed the living spaces on the northern portion of the building to maximize the soft ambient light and connection to the large yard. The consolidated living space is central to the house and is also used to circulate throughout the home making the home feel much larger than its modest 1,900 square feet. The living space is equipped with a generous chef’s kitchen with an open pantry that shares views to site’s large 52” Oak tree. The master suite enjoys its own secluded yard and a unique combined closet and bathroom. To counteract the orientation and shaded lot we carefully placed deep reflective skylights to balance light throughout the house.
